"It must be authentic, reflect the special characteristics of the grape variety and the region, have backbone, but also drinkability - coherent, balanced, harmonious." This is how Michael Auer describes his notion of an ideal typical wine from Carnuntum, and he seems to have taken the right path to this goal. From classic regional wines to local wines to high-quality wines from single vineyard sites, the Auer wines always clearly and distinctly display their provenance and the extraordinary terroir on which they grow. The Blaufränkisch is Michael Auers personal favourite: "The fine tannin structure makes this red wine really great," explains the young winemaker.
Rebuilding a winery virtually from scratch brings great opportunities, but also challenges. For this reason, every step here is carefully thought through and tested for its strengths and weaknesses - an approach that has resulted in exceptionally consistent wine quality.
Since the beginning of his winemaking career, Michael Auer has devoted himself with great sensitivity to the highly sensitive prestigious subject of "single vineyard sites". With his "Ried Aubühl" he succeeded right away in creating a cuvée that has the ageing potential to make it to the top of Austria.
Michael Auer follows equally clear lines in his work in the vineyard and in the cellar: his wines are created in harmony with nature, but by no means by chance.
The harvest is entirely handpicked. In the cellar, the motto is "controlled idleness": the wines are left on the skins for a maximum of 20 days. For several years, the winemaker has relied on whole cluster fermentation, as the intercellular process makes the wines particularly soft and harmonious.
Michael Auer is no longer a young winemaker finding his way. He knows exactly what he wants and how to achieve his goals. It is precisely this vision and consistency that you can feel and taste in his wines.
